PROJECT OVERVIEW

DESTACO, a leading industrial automation company, partnered with Mira Commerce to undergo a comprehensive digital transformation. The project involved migrating their extensive and intricate product catalog from a legacy monolithic infrastructure to a modern, headless ecommerce platform adhering to MACH (Microservices, API-first, Cloud-native, Headless) architectural principles. The previous solution had limited their ability to respond to users intent which vary greatly between in-depth research and product qualification to efficient, intuitive CPQ functionality and order fulfillment. Upgrading the solution allowed them to adjust to the user intent, personalizing the customer journey and reducing any misalignment that can lead to potential customer frustration. This multi-store, multi-language implementation focused on enhancing user experience, improving performance, and streamlining content management for their complex B2B needs.

The Challenge

How can a global industrial leader with a vast and complex product catalog modernize its digital presence to enhance performance, improve product and information discovery, and provide a superior user experience for its diverse B2B customer base?

Mira Commerce addressed DESTACO’S challenges through a strategic and phased approach, beginning with in-depth strategic planning and analysis of their existing technology and business needs. This initial phase provided a clear understanding of the required future state. Following this, our team provided expert guidance on the most suitable technologies and innovative solutions aligned with modern architectural best practices. We recommended a composable architecture based on MACH principles, selecting BigCommerce Catalyst for its strong B2B capabilities as the core platform.
Our technical team then focused on building the foundational infrastructure to support the new headless environment. We implemented a decoupled architecture, separating the customer-facing front-end, built with Next.JS and React, from the BigCommerce back-end. This provided the necessary flexibility for creating tailored and high-performing user interfaces across their multiple online stores and language options.
A critical part of the project involved the complex task of connecting various systems and migrating DESTACO’s extensive product data. These systems were tied together through defined workflows that allow a small team to efficiently manage day-to-day site production and execute updates to support sophisticated product and marketing efforts. To enhance the user experience, we integrated DESTACO’S custom product configurator with CDS Visual, allowing customers to customize and view 3D models and download specs or CAD drawings of their exact specifications. We also integrated a leading search and discovery platform, Bloomreach Discovery, to enhance product findability, and a customer engagement and content management solution, Bloomreach, to personalize experiences and streamline content workflows. The project also involved leveraging the robust B2B functionalities of the chosen ecommerce platform to support DESTACO’s specific business requirements, such as custom pricing and account management. Throughout the engagement, we focused on optimizing the online experience across all of DESTACO’s sales channels and global markets. Finally, we implemented comprehensive tracking and analytics tools to monitor the performance of the new platform and provide actionable insights for ongoing optimization of their digital commerce strategy.

Results

The strategic migration to a headless MACH architecture has delivered substantial positive outcomes for DESTACO’s online performance and customer engagement. The implementation resulted in a 12% improvement in click-through rates on organic search engine results pages (SERPs). This indicates that DESTACO’s content is now more relevant and appealing to users searching for their products, driving more qualified traffic to their website.

The project also led to an 18.7% improvement in SERP rankings for strategically important keywords. This enhanced visibility in search results positions DESTACO more prominently in their competitive landscape. A key focus was on improving the user experience, which is reflected in the remarkable performance gains. Mobile Core Web Vitals saw a 326.7% improvement, and desktop performance improved by 144.7%. These metrics signify a significantly faster and more stable Browse experience for users across all devices. Complementing this, mobile page load speed improved by 46%, and desktop load speed saw a 72.7% improvement. These faster loading times contribute to increased user satisfaction, reduced bounce rates, and ultimately, a more effective online sales channel for DESTACO.
