Mercado Libre, the leading eCommerce marketplace in Latin America, is giving BigCommerce merchants the ability to sell across Latin America to nearly 133 million consumers. This marks Mercado Libre’s first partnership with a major North American eCommerce platform. This exclusive partnership will allow US merchants to easily sell into Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico through the BigCommerce Channel Management.
What does this expansion mean for U.S. eCommerce business? Latin America was one of the fastest growing eCommerce markets in the world last year, and Mercado Libre – which sells in 18 LATAM countries and has global selling operations active in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico – is projected to account for 25% of all eCommerce sales in Latin America by the end of 2021. Currently this LATAM Marketplace has 12 million sellers, and 65 million buyers, grossing over $23.5 billion in sales from April 2020 – April 2021. Mercado Libre’s 2020 stats show 132.5 million unique active users, 533 visits per second, and 27 orders per second. Mercado Libre is driving big numbers!
At Mira Commerce, we’re excited to see this major partnership evolve for BigCommerce as we support global, regional, and local merchants operating in Latin America. Through free currency conversions and language translations provided by Mercado Libre, and an efficient manage order flow through BigCommerce Preferred Partner CedCommerce, merchants can focus on selling their products to deliver superior online shopping experience for their customers. As Mira Commerce CEO, Sergei Ostapenko states “Latin America represents a huge opportunity for omni-channel retail and we’re excited to be helping merchants get on the forefront of eCommerce technology with BigCommerce and Mercado Libre”.
